Hearing Dogs
Are trained to alert their handler to a variety of sounds, including (but not limited to) knocking on the door, doorbells, telephones, timers, and smoke alarms. They are trained to indicate to the handler what is causing the sound by physically touching the client with their paw(s).
Hearing dogs are usually smaller breed dogs (under 40 pounds) such as Shetland Sheepdogs, Schipperkes, Smooth Fox Terriers or mixed breed dogs and have dynamic personalities. Occasionally we will train a smaller Labrador or Golden Retriever as a hearing dog if they have a suitable temperament. Hearing dogs cannot placed in homes where there are other dogs.
